Looking for Answers in the Garden

No matter how many years you do it, no matter how many days you spend outdoors, how many hours you devote to planting and weeding, or how many books or magazine you read, gardening will always remain a bit of mystery.

There is that fundamental, incomprehensible miracle that transforms a seed into a plant, a thorn-bedecked stalk into a branch of blooming roses. But there are also far moreundane questions.

Why did my hydrangea die?

Even if you can figure out some answers, they provoke even more questions. Was it just that particular hydrangea that died under those particular circumstance? Should I try to grow another? Should I water it more and fertilize it less? Or should I cut my losses? And what's a good substitute for hydrangea?

When it comes to gardening, there are essentially two ways of learning: by doing and by absorbing information from gardeners more experienced than you. And while we can't get down into the dirt for you, you can search the web and search for solutions and insights from gardeners who have succeeded.

Of course, even as we gardeners anticipate spring, living vicariously through the catalogs and website of nurseries and plant sources, the weather in much of the country remains damp and cold. But that does not mean we can not still enjoy a few indoor celebrations.

We certainly hope that we bring a little inspiration and motivation for you to continue with you gardening hobby and to continue to grow and grow your passion for it.
